Gearing Commander: Chain Links shown in "Chain geometry changes due to sprocket & chain changes"
The number of links shown in the 'Stock' and 'Current' columns are fixed ! The values shown are the same values as entered in the 'Setup fields' at the top of the page. This number of links does not change as it is assumed that you keep your current chain. Keeping this chain it calculates the new 'needed' sprocket distance. Now if that means a distance which you cannot set because you wheel is already completely in front or rear position, then you can enter a new number of links (in Custom setup) to check how many you would need to get a big enough adjustment range.
So please DO NOT
interpret this number as:
![]()
"Oh, it still needs the same number of links even though I changed sprockets..."
But DO:
•
Check the Sprocket Distance Difference in Custom Setup compared to Current Setup
(in this case: 12.79 mm closer together = move rear wheel to front)
![]()
• Check your bike if this distance is still available
• If not play around with the number of links in Custom Setup to get a Sprocket
Distance Difference that is available. This means buying a new chain.
• If available you can change the sprockets to Custom Setup without buying a new
chain.
