Update the Stand Alone Gearing Commander

To keep up to date with both the program version and the Bike-database, you now and again have to connect to the Internet and let the program check if there are any updates available. If so, the updates will be downloaded automatically.

Normally when you use the Stand Alone Gearing Commander Online, it will be updated automatically in the background. Depending on the amount of updated files and your Internet connection, this can take a couple of seconds or minutes. On the bottom of the main page you can see the current version number. When you leave this page to say go to the help files and then return to it, the version should be updated if one was available.
So in general you do not need to update your self.

But if this for some reason does not work or you do not want to wait for it to happen automatically, you can do it manually.

Since a Internet browser uses his own cache to be able to load pages faster, this caching mechanism might mess with the Gearing Commander update procedure. To prevent that, some extra steps are taken to empty your browsers cache. How this is done depends on your browser and is described for IE and FF.

How to Update:

  • Make sure you have an Internet connection !

  • Select the 'Check Updates' option in the main menu

  • The following screen appears:


This means there is a newer Bike Database but there is no newer program. You can now either return to the Main page or actually update. Since that is what you came for:

  • Select 'Update to latest version(s)'

  • Depending on how long the actual update takes, a message appears:

  • When finished the following message appears:

Now don't forget the next steps to clear your browsers cache!

Internet Explorer 7 users:                        (FireFox users look further down)

  • Navigate to your home page (away from the Stand Alone Gearing Commander page)

  • Select 'Tools', 'Internet Options'

  • Select 'Browsing history' Delete-button

  • Select 'Temporary Internet Files' Delete files-button

  • Select 'Yes'

  • Select 'Close', select 'OK'

  • Now you can use your updated Stand Alone Gearing Commander !

FireFox users:

  • Select 'Tools', 'Clear Private Data' or press 'Ctrl-Shift-Del'.

  • In the following window, uncheck all but 'cache'

  • Press 'Clear Private Data Now'

  • Now you can use your updated Stand Alone Gearing Commander !
